Can You Wash Aircon Filter Sheets? Why Replacing Every 2 Months Works Better

October 3, 2026

When an aircon filter sheet starts to look dirty, rinsing it under the tap and putting it back can seem like a smart way to save money. With electrostatic filter sheets like Flair, it actually works against you. Here is why, and what to do instead.

Key takeaways

Flair Filters are designed for single use and should never be washed.
Washing reduces filtration performance and may reduce the electrostatic charge.
Damp filters may encourage mould growth on the filter and inside your aircon.
Replace every 2 months. A 12 pack covers one aircon for a full year.

Can you wash an aircon filter sheet?

No. Flair Filters are designed for single use. They are made from electrostatically charged nonwoven polypropylene, and that charge is a big part of how they capture small particles. Washing can reduce filtration performance and may reduce the electrostatic charge, which means a washed filter will not clean your air as well as a fresh one.

Why washing can cause mould

A filter sheet that goes back into your aircon while still damp can create the conditions mould needs. Damp filters may encourage mould growth on the filter and inside the air conditioner. Replacing the filter regularly is the safest and most effective option. Learn more in Mould in Your Aircon Filter: Why It Happens in Humid Climates.

How often should you replace an aircon filter sheet?

Replace your Flair Filters every 2 months for best results. Each aircon needs 2 filters, which last for 2 months. That means:

One 12 pack gives one aircon unit 12 months of purified air.
Our bundles cover 3 or 5 aircon units for a full year.

Never forget a replacement

Flair comes with automatic reminders, so you know when it is time to replace your filters. You can also subscribe to receive a new set of filters once a year. You are only committing to your first purchase, and you can cancel anytime before your next annual renewal.

What about the environment?

Single use does not have to mean wasteful. Flair Filters use certified biodegradable materials, PLA certified and tested by TÜV Rheinland.

How to replace your filter

Remove the old Flair sheet from your aircon filter.
Trim a fresh 35 x 35 cm sheet with ordinary scissors to fit, if needed.
Attach it over your existing aircon filter using the included double sided tape.

The whole process takes less than a minute.
