Aircon Filter or Air Purifier: Which Is Right for Your Home?

October 3, 2026

If you want cleaner air at home, an air purifier is usually the first thing that comes to mind. But if you already have an aircon in the rooms you use most, there is another option: turn that aircon into an air purifier with a filter sheet. Here is how to decide which is right for you.

Key takeaways

An air purifier is a standalone device. An aircon filter works with the aircon you already own.
Flair Filters purify your air straight from your aircon and capture up to 90% of pollution.
Installation takes less than a minute, with no extra device to place in your room.
One 12 pack gives one aircon unit 12 months of purified air.

The key difference

An air purifier is a separate device you place in a room. An aircon filter like Flair sits inside the aircon you already have, so the air your aircon circulates is filtered as it passes through. Questions to ask before you decide

Do you already run an aircon in the rooms you care about?

If yes, a Flair Filter lets you clean the air in those rooms without adding another device. Flair Filters fit almost all common wall mounted split system and window aircons. They are not suitable for ducted systems.

Does your aircon run when you need clean air?

A Flair Filter cleans air as it passes through your aircon, so it works while your aircon is running. Think about when you need cleaner air most, and whether your aircon is on at those times.

How many rooms do you want to cover?

Each aircon needs 2 filters that last 2 months. A 12 pack covers one aircon for a year, and our bundles cover 3 or 5 aircon units for a full year.

Which Flair Filter should you pick?

High Filtration: filters up to 90% of pollution. Best for the cleanest air.
Max Airflow: filters 65% of pollution and typically reduces only around 5% of your airflow.
